Amongst visiting artists will be many regular participants as well as the St. Lawrence String Quartet, James Campbell and others. SWEETWATER MASTERCLASSES
As part of a series of master classes, our Education Director, Virginia Barron, arranged for Alvin Tung to perform and teach at the OSCVI on May 13th, 2010.

John Barnum, Music Director of the Georgian Bay Symphony Orchestra, introduced Alvin as a classical guitarist who had recently performed with the Symphony. On this occasion Alvin’s music and commentary maintained the interest of about 200 students during a concert presentation and 30 students during his master class. Alvin’s personality and musicality will have induced most of the students to include Classical guitar music in their i-pod collection.

Programmes such as these are sponsored by the SweetWater organization along with the Jean Medley Memorial Fund and stress our philosophy of enhancing the musical education of young people in the Grey Bruce Counties.

Incidentally, have you heard of “El Sistema”, the celebrated musical programme for Venezuelan children? What do you think of having something similar for children in our local schools? Keep tuned for more.

A determination to broaden musical education for young people is occupying the columns of British newspapers these days. Read this article from the Telegraph.
